Ed Theurkauf has been involved with planning and design development at Charlestown Township Park for over 20 years.

The Park was originally the site of the Valley Forge Military Hospital, which subsequently was divided into Township property and private land that eventually became the University of Valley Forge.

A 2001 Park Master Plan laid out proposed facility improvements to facilitate funding through Chester County and other grant agencies.  The first such project was a paved 1.2 mile multi-use trail that quickly became the Township’s most frequently used recreational amenity.  This was followed by projects to upgrade landscaping, create naturalized meadow areas, and construct a lacrosse field and two regulation size basketball courts.

In 2015 and 2017, Theurkauf Design & Planning assisted with layout and design development for six pavilions of varying size, two new playgrounds, a restroom building, volleyball court, picnic/barbeque amenities, parking lots, rain gardens, and landscaping. Today the park functions as a popular community wide asset serving not only the residents of Charlestown, but also neighboring Phoenixville, Schuylkill Township, and East Pikeland Township.

A Municipal Partner that really gets it.
